25 Years of Defining Green for People and the Planet

You are making the extraordinary happen. Together, with Co-op America, you and I are ushering in a new green era – where green always stands for people and the planet, social and economic justice, community and environmental health.

Together, we mobilize powerful economic strategies for a more just and sustainable society – tackling climate change, building fair trading systems, stopping corporate abuse, advancing the green economy and supporting healthy, local communities. 
Here are just a few of the highlights of what we have accomplished in 2007.  Together, our economic actions for a just planet have:

• Directed over $100 million in purchases to green businesses to grow the green economy.
• Moved nearly $1 billion into low-income communities around the world through our 1% in Community Campaign, creating jobs, affordable housing and locally owned businesses.

• Played a leadership role in pressuring power companies to reduce their climate impact – and stopped the construction of 15 new coal-fired power plants.

• Assisted communities across the country in fighting off big box stores and strengthening local economies.

• Mobilized businesses and communities to increase recycling and decrease deforestation.

• Provided millions of Americans with the resources and information to green their homes, workplaces, faith congregations and communities.
