Retire the socially responsible way:
Co-op America teams up with Social(k)

Social(k) is the first 401(k) provider to offer socially conscious investors the breadth and depth of investment options available in conventional retirement programs. Co-op America's Green Business Network™ (CABN) is now offering this 401(k) option to all members.

The plan offers more than 100 SRI mutual funds from 40 mutual funds companies. According to Social(k) founder and president, Rob Thomas, “A Social(k) retirement plan is the perfect fit for the 3,500 CABN members, they already embrace social and environmental responsibility in all their day-to-day business practices, this allows them to invest their retirement plans in the same fashion.”

Rob Thomas will be attending the Co-op America Green Business Conference to introduce this program, November 7-10.

Green Festivals—News and Updates

In exciting news this week, we learned that Washington DC’s #1 rated local news show will be broadcasting at Green Festival, October 14-15. News 4 anchor Wendy Rieger will be at the Green Festival starting Friday night with an up-close and personal look at what makes up the Green Festival—from the green business owners, to cutting-edge green technologies to our successful recycling/composting efforts.

Rieger also hosts "Going Green," a weekly news series, focusing on environmental consumer issues. She will be at the Green Festival to tape segments for the show—interviewing business leaders, speakers, and attendees.

If you haven’t made up your mind yet to attend or exhibit this might be an added incentive!

Speakers in Washington, DC will include: Dr. Helen Caldicott, Amy Goodman, Tom Hayden, Warren Brown, Greg Palast, Medea Benjamin, Annie Bond, Lester Brown and 100 others.

Speakers in San Francisco will include Alice Walker, Dr. David Suzuki, Jim Hightower, Ben Cohen, Paul Stamets, Thom Hartmann, Joan Blades, Cindy Sheehan, and 100 others.

Call 877-727-2179 to reserve exhibit space—sorry but San Francisco is already sold out. The early discount for Chicago expires on August 31.

Chicago Welcomes Green Festival—early discount till August 31

Earlier this month, the Co-op America and Global Exchange staff traveled to Chicago to launch the Green Festival Chicago Host Committee. The committee members representing a wide-range of issues and organizations in the Chicago region will provide programming resources for the Festival that will be Earth Day weekend, April 21-22, 2007.

Addressing the audience at the reception was Sadhu A. Johnston, Chicago's Commissioner for the Environment, “As each year passes, it becomes more apparent that U.S. cities must be at the forefront in addressing critical environment and social justice issues. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley continues to expand on his commitment to be the greenest city in America. The Green Festival is a key part of Mayor Daley’s ongoing efforts and will undoubtedly inspire new environmental tools and living options to help Chicago continue to be a model for other cities.”

“We are honored to be chosen a host city for the first Green Festival in the Midwest,” Johnston added, “This is a great opportunity to showcase the green products and services available to Chicagoans and others in the region, and to highlight the environmental initiatives underway and to learn from the best practitioners across the country.”

In other news, taking the lead from the City of Chicago, the Washington, D.C. Department of the Environment has signed on as a major partner to the DC Green Festival and will be profiling the cities best practices and environmental initiatives in a City of DC Energy Pavilion.

Call 877-727-2179 to reserve your exhibit space—sorry but San Francisco is already sold out. The early discount for Chicago expires on August 31.
