If you're up for a green makeover choose a specific category from the list of Monthly Green Tips and get started! Use natural floor coverings and carpets when redecorating the inside of your home.
Consider using nontoxic paints and stains to minimize indoor air pollution and reduce contaminants in landfills and groundwater. Never dispose of old paint thinner, household cleaners, oil, or pesticides by washing them down the drain or throwing them out. Donate leftovers to a friend or charity, or take your waste to a local toxic disposal center. Check out local used furniture stores to find items that are light on your wallet and the environment, or consider new eco-friendly furniture. Look for "green" contractors who have experience in sustainable building design and green renovation.
Consider solar lights, radios, and a solar-powered oven or water heater. Check out the “Energy Products/Services—Solar & Wind” category of the National Green Pages™ listings for businesses that can assist you. Use alternative building materials that don’t come from trees, such recycled plastic lumber for rot-free decks, and cabinetry made from recycled newspapers.
