Take Action to Protect Forests and Biodiversity!

Please take a moment to read and sign the letter below to all the magazine publishers that we are aware of who use environmentally preferable papers. If you would like to see the list of publishers that the letter will be sent to, click here.

Less than five percent of all magazine paper contains any recycled content at all. While we need to tell the magazine publishers who do not use postconsumer recycled paper that there are viable options, we also need to congratulate and encourage those publishers that are committed to environmental sustainability. Dear Magazine Publisher, Thank you for using environmentally responsible paper and sustainable production practices in your publication. I learned about your magazine's commitment to the environment through the Magazine PAPER Project's Magazine Heroes List, and I wanted to recognize your accomplishment. I appreciate your dedication and commitment to protecting forests and creating a more sustainable environment. Your use of recycled paper has not just helped to reduce the amount of trees deforested, but has also conserved water, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and energy use, and has decreased air and water pollution (you can easily view these environmental savings and others by using Environmental Defense's Paper Calculator). Your commitment to sustainability reinforces to suppliers that there is an ever growing demand for recycled paper, and is helping to move paper manufacturers and printers towards more sustainable production. Leaders like you who have chosen to use environmentally responsible paper and production practices have created a framework for other publishers to follow. This makes it much easier for your colleagues who have not yet made the switch how it can be done. I encourage you to publicly proclaim your use of recycled paper to the rest of the industry and your readers if you have not done so already, such as including your commitment in your magazine masthead and through conversations and correspondences.
